As part of the Male' Declaration programme, the baseline studies and national action plan were already implemented in Bangladesh. It was found out that in Bangladesh, vehicular and industrial emissions, and coal burning are the major sources of air pollution. These sources are mostly concentrated in main cities. Among the pollutants of key interest in monitoring air quality are Sulfur dioxide, Nitrogen oxides, Ammonia, SPM, Lead and VOC. In addition, the frequency of monitoring was done in random and unsystematic manner with limited capacity. In view of these, several research studies and significant national responses on air pollution issues were covered in this document.
